(Special note to PC gamers: Good luck with the controls. This is sure to be off-putting to some gamers out there.

And while the game is for the most part straightforward, there are some finer points you will need to discover through old school trial and error.

This is because RRU explains NOTHING about how to play it. I will admit that I might have not understood how multiplayer works. I was never able to get into a game with more than one other person racing, and my xbox FROZE three separate times during multiplayer lobbies. You'll find yourself racing against the course more than the AI once you begin to get the controls down. The AI is a challenging mix of cheating and skill. I've found that you want to use it to aim for your exit angle, WHILE not holding it longer than you have to, since it lowers your speed the longer you hold it. The Drift button has nothing to do with realism, which is not an all together BAD thing. It's a foreign game mechanic to the modern hobby racer, as in recent years there's been a strive towards realism. But you NEED to use the Drift button, because your score will suffer as well as your speed if you don't. But you can't tap it, because you're not going to get sideways enough. You can't think of it like a handbrake button, because it slows you down too much that way. The first thing you're going to learn is that the Drift button is a harsh mistress. Surely, I'm more qualified to review than some of these schmoes? So I gathered up some old games, and one Gamestop run later, I had RRU in my XBOX. My parents would unceremoniously haul me to the car when they saw me making a beeline for a Outrun cabinet. I can't remember how many times I played Gran Turismo II until I fell asleep. I wore out my NFS:Hot Pursuit disc, and I played Blur from launch to server shutdown. The 'mainstream' press appears to be giving the game a solid 8, and the indie reviewers are trashing it. The gaming press, as it were, appears to be split on this title. RRU has presented a real serious conundrum for me, and I think a few others. It's saved me a lot of grief in the past, and confirmed my general ability to pick successful titles that fit my tastes. Even if you've already had your heart set on a title. If you're like me, you like to check the reviews of titles before you buy a game.
